The powerful antioxidant protects our cell from infection, but when we fight illness and toxins the body’s vitamin C reserves are depleted. The Swiss study found that super intakes of up to 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C help prevent illness and shorten the duration of existing respiratory tract infections including the common cold. It is next to impossible to get this much vitamin C from your diet. But a freshly-squeezed glass of orange juice offers about 200 milligrams of vitamin C each time.
