If you’ve decided that you need to follow a
detoxification program, your success is directly dependent
on the shape of your circulatory system.
Detoxification is based on the idea of restoring and
regenerating: out with the old and in with the new. In order
to ensure this exchange and continuous movement in the body,
good circulation function is needed: of the blood and
lymphatic fluids.
The circulatory system is fundamentally important for all
the organs, tissues and cells; it brings nutrients
(including oxygen) to the cells and takes away end products
of metabolism.
There are four methods to help you keep the circulation
functioning properly: hydrotherapy, dry skin brushing,
exercise and breath training, they all facilitate the
removal of toxins from the body.
Hydrotherapy has been the cornerstone of traditional
naturopathic methods of detoxification therapy in both North
America and Europe for over 100 years. It consists of using
hot and cold water in different ways to increase the flow of
blood to different parts of the body; it is an important
part of a detoxification program because it regulates the
flow of blood to organs that are under stress during
detoxification, hence its healing powers. Some of the modern
ways of doing hydrotherapy are: hot and cold shower method,
bath and wet sheet method, constitutional hydrotherapy, and
sauna therapy.
Saunas stimulate detoxification through the skin, thus
allowing all the other major detoxification organs to rest;
the heat of the sauna also encourages the body to burn fat
stores very quickly, and this effect continues as long as
you remain in the sauna. For hydrotherapeutic effects,
alternate between 15 minutes hot sauna and quick cold water
rinses (30 breaths long).
Dry skin brushing is an old natural healing method. The
skin is an organ of both respiration and elimination; it
helps regulate body temperature and participates in
absorption/elimination of oxygen, nutrients, and toxins.
Surprisingly, although the skin weighs twice as much as the
liver and brain, it receives only one-third the circulation.
During your detoxification period, it is best to do a dry
skin brushing after hydrotherapy; your strokes should be
short and brisk, moving from extremities towards your heart
– in the direction of lymphatic flow.
For best detoxification benefits, along with increasing
circulation, you need to follow a good nutritional cleansing
program.
